The apostle Paul writes about the pain of his Christian experience and the sufficiency of Christ no matter what.
II Corinthians 6:10 Sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, yet possessing everything. (NIV)
When a group of 5 missionaries were martyred in South America in the 1950’s the families were devastated and the world was shocked. These were some of America’s brightest and best — killed by the people they sought to reach with God’s love! How could a good God allow this to happen?
Perhaps the answer is that one of the sisters of the martyred men and the wife and young daughter of another went back to South America to continue the work! These actions showed the world what it meant to be “sorrowful, yet always rejoicing”.
