The apostle Paul describes how God’s Holy Spirit is the means through which Christ-followers come to know Him.
I Corinthians 2:11 For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. (NIV)
One of the most radical of thoughts is that God is willing to reveal Himself to people like you and me! God is so much higher and more glorious — alone — you could never hope to even approach the mind of the Creator; but with the enabling of God’s Spirit you have access to His thoughts! If this sounds a little far-fetched, read verse 7 of this chapter which speaks of the “secret and hidden wisdom of God which is made available to us by the Spirit.”
The sad truth is . . . most Christ-followers hardly ever think about the Holy Spirit! Someone has said the divine wisdom imparted by the Spirit is “designed to produce beautiful people, not only outwardly but inwardly as well — loving, compassionate, strong yet merciful and tenderhearted people who are filled with grace, beauty and strength.” I challenge you to join me in praying that God’s Spirit will open our minds to the thoughts of God!
