Old Testament Solomon spells out the up-side of telling the truth.
Proverbs 12:19-20 Truthful lips will be established forever, but a lying tongue is only for a moment. Deceit is in the heart of those who devise evil, but counselors of peace have joy. (NASB)
Truth-telling is speaking as Christ would speak — the One who said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” Falsehood may provide a temporary escape from circumstances but lasts only until the truth is revealed. You never have to worry that your words will be a snare — when you always tell the truth.
Deceit is a brother to a lie . . . a slippery slope to greater evil that must be rejected. On the other hand, truth-telling establishes credibility, and is brother to peace. When you promote peace — you experience joy!
