Old Testament David lays hold of God’s faithfulness in hard times.
Psalm 40:11 Do not withhold Your tender mercies from me, O Lord; let Your loving-kindness and Your truth continually preserve me. (NKJV)
Someone wrote, this is not so much a prayer as it is an expression of confidence in the certainty of God’s response. It’s helpful, in trying times, to remember past answers to prayer — past occasions when the mercies and grace of God have enabled you to endure.
“Loving-kindness” is a reference to God’s covenant love — His loyal love to Israel. In spite of Israel’s stubbornness, grumbling, and disobedience, the Lord had made a covenant with them and those promises would be kept. When the clouds of trial gather it’s time, as a Christ-follower, to remind yourself that God is with you and will never leave or forsake you!
