Romans 8:5-6
For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.

When you came to know Christ, He made you a new creation. The old you melted away, and the new you took their place. You don’t belong to the world or to “the flesh” anymore, so don’t live like it! Live and breathe as the Holy Spirit guides you and focus on the things He leads you to. How can you serve God? What is His will for your life? Who can you share the gospel with? If your thoughts and intentions remain on the temporary aspects of this world, nothing good will come of it; but if your heart is set on the Lord, you will be serving and pleasing Him, and will experience life and peace.

Proverbs 4:23
Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.

What you let into your heart is generally what comes out of it. In other words, “you are what you eat.” The Bible warns us to guard our hearts and minds, because the things we say and do flow out of what’s inside us. Christ called you to be an example of Him, and you can’t do that when what flows from your heart isn’t honoring to God. Proverbs urges us not just to guard our hearts, but to guard them with all vigilance, because from it comes your attitude, your conscience, and your joy.

Colossians 3:2
Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.

The things you worry about on earth aren’t going to matter in ten thousand years. One day in Heaven, after you’ve lived for millions and trillions of years in perfect paradise with God, the short time you spent on earth is going to be so incredibly miniscule in comparison. Knowing this, the Bible tells us to set our sights on Heaven. If your aspirations are to build up treasure in Heaven and save souls for God’s kingdom, they’re the only aspirations that will matter in the end.

Philippians 4:8
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

Letting your mind dwell on all the bad in your life won’t lead to anything good. There will always be things that stress, anger and frighten you, but there’s so much more to life. All good things come from the Lord, and if you look for His blessings, you’ll find them. Don’t let the enemy convince you that worry and pain is all there is to think about. Instead, whatever is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, excellent and praiseworthy, think about these things.

Proverbs 30:5
Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.

God is your rock, your defender, and your fortress. When the enemy attacks, God is strong enough to protect you if you let Him. In life you’ll be barraged with all sorts of trials, problems, and challenges to your faith. But through it all, God will be with you, and has provided you with tangible guidance and truth in the form of the Bible. From the moment they were written until the end of time, the Word holds true, and through every hard moment in life, it will be your shield.

2 Peter 1:20-21
Knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

The Bible may have been written by human hands, but the true author was the Holy Spirit. Nowhere in the Bible was any word written that was not inspired by God. You can be assured that everything in its pages is true, but that also means you should pay attention to what it says. The Bible is God’s letter to mankind, and His instructions for how to live on earth. The words written by man inevitably become lost to time, but the Word of God is forever, and is the most important thing you’ll read today!
