For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.

When you think “Christian” the first thing you envision should never be “fearful.” As a child of God, paid for by the blood of Jesus and promised an eternal place in Heaven, you have nothing to fear. The Holy Spirit residing in your heart isn’t a spirit of fear, but of power, of love, and self-discipline. As representatives of Christ, you can be bold like He was, proclaiming the truth of the gospel and sharing the love of God with everyone who needs it. Trust that the Lord has a plan, and that He will equip you for your part in it.

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.

When sin and death entered the world, so did sorrow, pain and grief; but this world is temporary. The Word describes the life we live as “but a breath” compared to eternity in Heaven, and God promises that when you get there, every tear will be wiped away. It’s why He sent His son Jesus to overcome the world. Hold on to this promise, because no matter what you face in this lifetime, your Father who loves you will make everything right for all eternity.

What is it that keeps you awake at night? What are the things that you stress over? When you are feeling overwhelmed and helpless about something in your life, remember that, ultimately, everything that has happened and is going to happen is perfectly in God’s control. His plans are so much bigger than yours, and you can trust that He knows what He’s doing. When you gives your problems to the Lord, you are putting your life into His hands, trusting in Him to make something beautiful from the bad.

God knows when you are grieving and suffering. But there may be times when He seems far away. When it feels like He has turned a blind eye to your situation. When your cries to Heaven have gone unanswered. You might even blame Him for what you’re going through now. Though sorrow is a part of the fallen world we live in, God has not and will never abandon you. He has promised not to leave you nor forsake you, and He will wipe the tears from your eyes, even if He allows you to shed them first.

There may be times when you think that God cannot possibly understand what you’re going through. That the pain and emotion you are feeling are somehow foreign to Him. But know that the Lord understands grief better than anyone else. Not only did He make you, but He sent His son Jesus to live and feel as man. God feels your pain and has counted your tears and sleepless nights. When you, His child hurts, He hurts. And He promises to draw near to those who are in pain.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

Sin is what separates us from God and leads to death. When you fall short, when you fail to be genuinely good, when you feel like you’ve fallen again, and again, take heart. In His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus had a powerful message for all who mourn sin with a godly sorrow. His words remind us that even in the depths of our sorrow, when we repent for the sins we’ve committed, we are never without hope. Jesus lived, died, and rose again to wash away the ugliness of our sins so that when we stand before the throne, we have been redeemed by His blood and made worthy of spending eternity in Heaven.
