Ephesians 4:9-10

Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up!

Good friends can be incredibly valuable and can help us get back on our feet when we fall short. We see best friends like David and Jonathan helping each other all throughout the Bible; even Jesus was visited by angels during his time alone in the wilderness. Two are better than one, and God’s Word encourages us not to face life alone.

2 Corinthians 13:11

Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.

In the Apostle Paul’s final message to the church of Corinth, he urges them to live in peace with one another as one mind and body. He reminds them that the God of love and peace will always be with them; a reminder that we need even today. With God among us and Christ in our hearts, a life of peace and unity with one another should come naturally.

James 3:17-18

But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.

Imagine if everyone had the wisdom that comes from heaven. The world would be a better place if everyone was peace-loving, considerate, and full of mercy. As Christ’s representatives here on earth, we should be doing everything we can to create that ideal world by being the peacemakers He called us to be.

Colossians 3:13

…Bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.

Jesus set the ultimate example of love and mercy, and as followers of Christ, we should seek to emulate His love with those we meet. Especially now, the world is divided by strife and disagreement, and it’s easy to get caught up in the discord. Being a peacemaker means being a light in the dark, forgiving those who have wronged you, and showing them the same mercy that God showed you.

Romans 14:19

So then let us pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding.

Being a peacemaker means building others up instead of tearing them down. Words of encouragement, a helping hand and even prayer are all ways we can help build others up. By doing so, we are not only helping others, but setting an example for fellow believers.

Matthew 5:9

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.

The world has enough strife and unrest as it is. As God’s children, we’ve been called not to make war with the world, but to make peace with everyone we meet. How can we expect to show the love of Christ to the world if we aren’t willing to be peacemakers
