So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.

“Doing the right thing” doesn’t always mean taking the shopping cart back to the store, or rounding up your total to give to the children’s hospital. Those small acts are wonderful gestures of kindness, and you should take advantage of them whenever you can… but there’s a lot more to doing the right thing. When the Lord gives clear signs that you’re supposed to do something, it might push you out of your comfort zone. His missions aren’t easy, and like Jonah, you can run in the opposite direction. But when God opens a door, you’ll feel the Holy Spirit’s tug. When that happens, don’t waste the opportunity to do what you know is right.

For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.

Remove one part of the body, and suddenly you’re in trouble. Without eyes, you can’t see. Without ears, you can’t hear. Take away any single one of your fingers, and suddenly even the simplest tasks become a whole lot harder. The Bible describes the Christian community as the “body of Christ” for that exact reason: each person has their own role to play based on the talents, gifts and abilities God has given them. Some are eyes, some are ears, and some are fingers, but all are equally important. You may not know for sure what part of the body you are, but if you’re willing to be brave and give Him the wheel, rest assured that the Lord can and will use you to tremendous effect.

God often presents His children with challenges that are too big for them to handle. He does this so that His power to help you conquer the unconquerable will be made apparent. But whether the Lord entrusts you with the small task of showing kindness to your neighbor, or with a responsibility far bigger than you imagined, He makes no mistakes when assigning duties. If you are responsible with the little things, God will entrust you with greater and greater things. Start small, and from there, you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.

It is appointed to every person once to die, the Bible tells us, because the wages of sin is death. Everyone will have their life taken from them at some point, but many have given their lives fighting to protect the freedom that we enjoy in this country. They valued the future of their nation, friends, and family more than their own, and chose to sacrifice their life for the good of others. On Memorial Day we remember them, honoring their sacrifice and the price that was paid. But we can also smile with hope, knowing that the ultimate price has been paid by Christ, and that those who passed on with their souls in the Saviors hands will be reunited with us in the presence of God.

While you and I must put on our armor and do our part as characters in God’s story, it is ultimately Him who grants us success. Our efforts and abilities are important… He made you this way for a reason… but they aren’t solely responsible for the things the Lord will accomplish through you. No matter how bad it gets, and no matter how it all ends, the Lord works in all things for the good and victory of those who love Him. If you’re facing a challenge or striving towards a goal, remember to work hard and prepare diligently, but ultimately trust that God will make it happen. With Him on your side, you can have confidence that the battle is already won.

In the midst of your most difficult trials, God is with you and fighting for you. You don’t have to rely on your own strength or abilities to overcome challenges. Rather, trust in God’s power and provision, knowing that He saw this hardship coming before you even drew your first breath. When you’re feeling overwhelmed or unsure of what to do, I encourage you to take a deep breath and be still. Trust in God’s love for you and His desire to fight for you. Take refuge under His wing, knowing that some battles aren’t yours to win: they’re His.
