Proverbs 27:1
Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.

If we aren’t in control of the future, what right do we have to boast about what the future will bring? The Word reminds you of how important it is important to focus on the present moment, knowing that the future is up to the Lord. Be mindful of how you are living your life today: are you making a conscious goal to please the Lord with what you do and say? Are you looking for opportunities to do good and share the gospel? Strive to be faithful with the time, opportunities, and resources that God has given you today, and then simply trust in Him for tomorrow.

Philippians 1:6
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

Salvation happens the moment you put your life in Christ’s hands, but the process of becoming more like Christ is a lifelong journey. When you accept Jesus, He begins transforming you from the inside out, melting away sin and turning you into the person He wants you to be. You’ll face challenges as you grow and mature, but God doesn’t leave jobs half-done; He promises to complete the good work He started in you. If you keep your eyes on Him, He will see you through any storm, and you’ll come out stronger for it. Through prayer and reliance on the Holy Spirit, you will continue to be transformed into the image of Christ.

Luke 6:35
But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil.

It’s certainly hard to be nice to people when they aren’t good to you, but that doesn’t change what God’s word says about being kind. Christ commands you to love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, especially when they don’t deserve it. In His darkest hour, Jesus even asked God to forgive those who were nailing Him to a cross. If you want to follow Him, live as He did, giving and expecting nothing in return. The Bible promises that whether in this life or the next, your reward will be great, and you will be called a child of the Most High.

1 Corinthians 13:1
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.

Love is a force that goes completely against our nature. You’re wired to please yourself, but out of love, you’ll care for someone else’s needs regardless of your own. Kindness is a wonderful thing, but if it isn’t rooted in love, what’s the point? Love is what sets Christ and His children apart from the rest of the world; we love because He first loved us. Pray every day that the Lord would give you opportunities to show kindness to people, and that He would give you the same love for them that He has for you. Showing that you care can brighten someone’s entire day, but it’s not about the act: it’s about the heart.

Proverbs 11:17
A man who is kind benefits himself, but a cruel man hurts himself.

Chances are you aren’t a malevolent villain with no regard for the feelings of others. Those kinds of characters are the ones you probably think of when you imagine a “cruel” person, but being mean is something we’ve all done. When somebody gets your order wrong or says something that pushes your buttons, it feels good to repay wrong with wrong. But in the end, hate just leads to more hate, and the cycle is bound to continue until someone has the grace to forgive. Be kind to others and show them the same grace that Christ shows you every day.

1 John 3:18
Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.

It’s easy to say kind things that you don’t mean. A simple “I hope you’re doing well,” or “I’m praying for you,” can go a long way, but only when it’s true. When you show kindness to people, you shouldn’t do it just to check off a box during your day; selfless acts come from the heart, and from your relationship with God. Love people, and care for them more than yourself. Pray with the people that need it and help to bear their sadness as a brother or sister in Christ. However, you decide to show true kindness to others, show it not just through words, but through your actions.
