The Psalmist prays for God to have mercy on Israel.
Psalm 79:8 Do not remember the iniquities of our forefathers against us; let Your compassion come quickly to meet us, for we are brought very low. (NASB)
God forgives and forgets our wrongs “as far as the east is from the west.” But first there must be confession and repentance! Moving forward from past sinful behavior requires reconciliation between God and man.
Biblical “mercy” is a beautiful concept. Mercy and confession require us to be “brought very low” in humility — before God can lift us up!
