For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.

It’s a simple truth that’s easy to take for granted: that God created everything there is. Not only the land and sea, but the planets, stars and galaxies as well. He set the winds into motion, He laid down the law of gravity, and even created time itself. Whether visible or invisible, of mankind or of the spiritual world, every created thing owes its existence to God. He is the perfect Creator, and everything that He made was made for a grand purpose: for the glory and enjoyment of the Lord.

And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

This passage makes it clear that gathering with other dedicated believers is important. Your faith is strengthened by your connection with other Christians, whether that be at church, Wednesday night bible study, or a small group at home. The writer of Hebrews implores that you don’t neglect to meet with each other like some do, but to make sure you’re encouraging and praying for each other always. Going to church isn’t what earns you a spot in Heaven… only the blood of Christ can do that… but it is a habit that gets you, and others, the most out of your walk with God.

So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.

Loving your neighbor as yourself is one of the most important commandments in the Bible. You are called to show love and goodness to all, but it’s especially important that the followers of Christ take care of each other. By being a part of various churches and ministries, not only do you set a good example, but you’re helping spread the gospel. For the church and the body of Christ as a whole to thrive, its members need to be building each other up, seizing the opportunity to do good and show love whenever they can. God wants us to do good to everyone we meet, but we especially need to take care of our church, so that the church can take care of the world.

God always hears you… the prayers of His children don’t fall on deaf ears. And where two or more are gathered in the Lord’s name, He is there with them. Whether you’re part of a church, a bible study, or a prayer group, meeting regularly with other believers to talk, pray and read scripture is an essential part of a fulfilling Christian life. To spread the gospel to a lost world, believers need to work together. We know God can do incredible things through just one person but imagine what He could do with more.

You’ve got your arms, your legs, fingers, and toes. They’re all individual parts, but they each belong to one body. The same concept is true for the body of Christ. Even though there are believers scattered across the globe, we all make up one body, under one Savior. Christ is the head of the church, and each of us play an important role in allowing that body to function. Whether He’s called you to serve him as a missionary in another country, or as a servant in your own little neighborhood, God has given you a unique purpose; by serving Him, you are serving the body of Christ.

Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood.

“Tend my sheep.” That simple commandment was one that Jesus gave to Peter after He rose back to life. A church was beginning, paid for by the blood of Christ, and the gospel would soon be spreading all over the world. It was up to Jesus’ disciples, and now you and me, to tend and care for the body of believers we find ourselves in. We are all brothers and sisters in Christ, and good families invest in each other. The moment you accepted Jesus as your Savior, you became part of the body of Christ, and if you take the time to care for the church, it will care for you.
