Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

It’s an unfortunate reality that the fallen world we live in hates the God you serve. Throughout history, those who love the Lord and profess the love of Christ have been persecuted. The bible tells us that we shouldn’t expect anything less from the world, but also that we as Christians are a light in the darkness, and where there’s light, there’s hope. You are not alone, and it’s important to remember that as you are working for the Lord, there are others working alongside you who know the love of the Father. Believers are called to stand firm with each other, so that even when the world shows it’s hate we’ll all be in it together.

Galatians 5:1
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

For most of history until Christ’s sacrifice on the cross, making yourself clean in the eyes of God involved troves of sacrifices, rituals, and religious practices. The purpose of these was to show just how short we fall in comparison to God’s ultimate glory. You can’t cleanse yourself from your sins, but the blood of Jesus can, and His grace is a gift and He offers freely to all. No longer do you have to be burdened by your mistakes; Christ has offered you a way out, and if you are willing to stand firm with Him, you will be made free.

Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

A popular question in today’s world seems to be “what is my purpose?” or “what can I do with my life?” Many people measure their life’s worth by their accomplishments, and their contributions to history and society. But no matter what kind of impact you make on the world, the greatest purpose that any person could ever have is to labor for the Lord. Paul encouraged the church in Corinth to give themselves fully to the work of the Lord, and if he were still alive, he would be saying the same thing to us today. Obeying God and following His will is the greatest commitment a person can make, and the impact that the Lord can make using a life just like yours is limitless.

Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

This is a scripture verse that forces you to self-examine yourself. Do you love others? Do you love out of a sense of guilt, or out of genuine selflessness? You are called to be a conduit of the Father’s love; a never-ending love that saved you from eternal damnation. You who have been saved by Christ’s sacrifice have been exposed to a love so much greater than anything you could have imagined, and if the Savior loved others unconditionally, so should you.

Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor.

The world will do it’s best to convince you that a “perfect world” is one where you only get what you want, when you want it, without sacrifice or adversity. However, during the time Corinthians was being written, the early church was creating a far better world by caring for the needs of each other above their own. Wealth, property, food, and clothing were provided to those who needed them out of love. Selfishness only brings conflict, jealousy, and war, but the Bible assures us that living selflessly is the most rewarding.

But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil.

The Word tells us to treat our friends and neighbors with love, but we are also commanded to show love to our enemies. Showing God’s love to those who have wronged and hurt you is a challenge, but if we are to be like Christ, we have to learn to forgive. Even more so, forgive them without expecting anything in return. True selflessness means that the love you give is a

gift, not a wage that others must earn. Jesus’ love was impartial, and He showed it to everyone, whether they were zealously following Him, or nailing His body to a cross.
